Malaysian trio nabbed over drugs

THREE Malaysian men have been arrested after allegedly attempting to import about 17kg of crystal methamphetamine concealed within a consignment of door hinges.

A consignment arrived via air cargo into Sydney and testing of the substance showed it was the drug.
 
Australian police arrested three Malaysian men aged 35, 33 and 28 in in Chifley, New South Wales.
 
The men were charged with importing a commercial quantity of controlled drugs and have made their first appearance in court.
 
The maximum penalty for these offences is life imprisonment.
 
Australian police said that organised criminal syndicates were using sophisticated smuggling methodologies in an attempt to evade scrutiny, "but our officers have the expertise and technology to detect even the most elaborate concealment".
