Indochine scores high gold grades

AMID a bag of high-grade hits, Indochine Mining has landed a shallow 17.7m intersection at 100.3 grams per tonne gold at its Mount Kare project in Papua New Guinea.

The intersection in a twinned hole started from a depth of 59m and included a 4m interval grading 420gpt gold.

A separate hole yielded 27m at 3.1gpt gold from a depth of 77m, while another struck an intersection of 16.9m grading 3.9gpt gold from a depth of 19.1m.

The intersection included an 8m interval at 7.53gpt gold and a 1m intercept clocking 50.3gpt gold.

The Cambodia and PNG-focused explorer said the results highlighted the potential of the tenement which was estimated to contain about 2 million ounces of gold.

Three rigs will continue drilling at the project into July as part of a prefeasibility study scheduled for completion in August 2012.

Assay results are pending from more than 25 holes.

Mt Kare is only 15km southwest of Barrick Gold’s significant Porgera mine in Enga province.

The project is headed by PNG geologist George Niumataiwalu, who Indochine cites as already successful in completing similar projects in PNG, negotiating landowner agreements and securing mining lease approvals.
