Illegal fishermen fined

THE master of an Indonesian fishing vessel and one crew member, who was a repeat offender, were convicted and fined $8000 and $2000 respectively when they appeared in the Darwin Magistrates Court recently charged with illegal fishing in Australian waters.

Both fishers pleaded guilty in court, and their vessel was confiscated and destroyed.
 
The men were caught on July 19 this year 125 nautical miles off the north Western Australia coast.
 
The master of the vessel said he was unaware they were in Australian waters.
